I have read most of this author's books. I like them, though they basis for the plot may be similar, the characters and their problems are different. The main theme is a really HONORABLE man who treasures GOOD women, and good women (and sometimes one that is NOT honorable) have difficulties, and he helps them to overcome them. The books take place in the 1870's-80's when women had NO rights: they could not vote, and their husbands could do whatever they wanted to them. The hero is truly their "savior", and how he helps them recover and become the strong women they really are and they all defeat the bad guys is interesting. It is REFRESHING to know that there was a time when SOME men were truly caring and heroic men, and not the usual modern man who all too often plays "fast and loose" with the truth and treats women (you can thank parents for that) as only "sex" symbols. Real women want REAL, KIND, LOVING and MASCULINE men who are good PROVIDERS and yet cherish strong, loving, caring women. The books show that LOVE is a lot more than about "chemistry", but being a GOOD, HONEST person is at the core of TRUE HAPPINESS.

This novel is one in a series of great Westerns by C.J. Petit that now includes 50 books. I’ve read every single one and enjoyed almost every word. I’m not ashamed to say that I’m addicted, but I am rather ashamed that I just now got around to writing some reviews of his work.These books have common elements that you don’t find in many places these days – a hero who is a really good man with some special skills and good morals – a knowledge of Old West firearms – acknowledgement of the role of money in one’s life – a respect for women and the difficulties they faced in the latter half of the 19th century. With one exception that I can recall, each novel introduces a new hero and they are long enough that there is plenty of time to develop the character and bring the story to a satisfying close.You could say that Petit writes according to a formula, but I think he has developed a palette of ideas that he can choose from for each novel. No two are alike, even though they all incorporate his basic principles. It’s been fun to see his writing change subtly as he seeks the best balance of story elements: action, character development, romance, etc…This collection of Western novels is an incredible feat of writing skill and persistence. I can only compare Petit to Louis L’Amour, which for any fan of Westerns may seem like a stretch, but not by much.CJ says he is going to take a bit of a break after writing his 50th novel, “Retribution.” Fortunately, there are so many CJ Petit novels that I can go back and re-read the earlier ones that I’ve forgotten.If you like Old West fiction, you really need to try some of these novels!

Small town -Big Story. I like Mr. Petit;s writing. I've noticed in some of his books he spends too much time describing the sex parts. Most of us don't need a 'how rto book on sex'. Iread for the plot,the description of the [lot, the events leading up to the plot and a portrait of the souroundings. The [lot doesn't have to be complicated, just believable so I can put my self in the cheering section. That's what I like about Mr Petits stories, but he goes one step futher. This is why I give the 'EXTRA' star in his prologue he gives me theremnaning lives of the stars. What happens down the road is the "HAPPY EVER AFTER PART" don't leave it out.I want to know what happened after all the trouble has been delt with,He does this very well.James SMith

This author usually follows the same general plot. Very empathetic single male finds some gigantic mess which he manfully clears up. Then he rides into the sunset. Good action and characterization. Reminds me of Zane Grey or the television version of Hopalong Cassidy. This book takes a slightly different twist because the plot has an ensemble cast, all of the members so saintly not a one could even say darn. Worth the money as a feel good .romance novel.

CJP has written a western about a father, with son, whose wife had died of pneumonia three years before who was riding in an early blizzard and found a woman and her 2 children freezing. He comes to the rescued and during the next year a family is formed until the woman's husband tried to rape his stepdaughter. He is shot and killed. This is an excellent read for the genre..... ER

Mr. C. J. has written, for me, one of the best stories of his I've read so far, and I've read over twenty. What's amazing to me is that, even though the genre is the same as well as the area and time frame, the actual stories are different enough that they hold my interest (and I think other readers as well). That's why I'll keep reading them.

This story has very little violence. It is a love story about a widower and a woman and 3 children. The main character is a good man and his character is shown over and over in the story. I hate to admit how sappy I have become while reading C.J.Petit books. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

I have several books by this author and have enjoyed each one. They are all similar but all have different story lines and heroes but these are very reasonably priced through Amazon and they are exceptional values
