This is the message I have taken from this interesting, entertaining, and informative book. The author presents common horse behavioral issues in a clear, concise, and organized way. The effective use of real-life stories from the author's extensive experience reinforces the understanding of the application of the strategies applied to correct behavioral issues. I appreciate the kindness and compassion that the author demonstrates as well as the humor that accompanies even the most challenging situations. After reading this book, I am inspired to become more observant of my own behaviors and practices. I have a better understanding of how seemingly little things that I allow or reinforce can easily lead to bigger issues--I could identify with many of the situations the author described. This book is a "must read" for anyone wanting to understand horse behavior in order to establish an enjoyable and positive relationship with their equine partner. Thank you, Nicole Brickner!

I found much of the answers of behavioral issues in horses to be what I expected, human error.I like the approach the author uses in diagnosing and treating the unwanted negative behaviors.I've seen and heard many others try to demand respect and positive behaviors by threats and fear. I never feel this is a way to teach any human or animal.I would feel very comfortable and fortunate to have this author to work with myself and my horse.Thank you Nicole for permitting me to understand not only my horse but also myself better.

Every rider should read this whether novice or advanced.

This is a great book which is teaching me how to train my horse. It's filled with practical tips and suggestions. I highly recommend it.

If you think it is okay to hit your horse and use punishment for training then this book is for you.But I really struggled with the suggested ways to fix horses with behavioral issues. I finally had to stop reading half way through when I got to the part where she would give the horse a "firm crack across the nose and/or neck with the end of the lead rope" as part of his training. That is never okay.Science is now proving that punishment causes all sorts of problems and many times does not fix a behavior for the long term. The behavior may re-appear later on.Also punishment causes a breakdown in trust and does nothing to increase the bond with your horse.It is a shame because there are parts of this book that are really good. Several of the horses that she retrains she does with patience and understanding.But please, for your horse's sake and your relationship, look for other books with kind and positive methods for working on behavioral issues.
